--------HISTORY OF EBS--------

In 1991, Magda Torres, pre-school teacher, social worker and nutritionist, started taking care of children from Jocotenango in her own home with the support of Las Obras Sociales (SOSEP). Our vision was born.

Magda’s vision and number of children increased which caused her some problems.  The SOSEP organization had its own rules and for this reason she decided to seek assistance.

By 1998 the centered benefited 45 children. In order to meet the basic needs of so many children, Magda started to accept donations and the assistance of international volunteers.

Magda decided to pay a visit to “Project Mosaic Guatemala” (an info-center for volunteers) to ask for help.  The Project began to administer and fund EBS through donations and assistance from Europe and throughout the world.  Until 2002 EBS also had the assistance of ‘Bethel Church’ in regards to becoming legalized.

On the 29th of August 2003, the project stood on its’ own feet and was officially founded under the name “El Buen Samaritano” (EBS).  The center was put into service and became a non-profit, independent, Guatemalan organization.

In 2005, EBS received a special donation from a German donor (member of “Mariposa e.V.”) and with an extra donation from a Dutch Foundation (“Vivir en Guatemala”), EBS bought a house nearby the existing center.

At the end of September 2007, the children enjoyed an extensive and comfortable move to the new center thanks to the collaboration and assistance of all the people that believe in our work and contribute to the well-being and development of Guatemalan children.
